Frequently Asked Questions about Neurotherapy

1. Who can be helped by a program of Neurotherapy?
Our Neurotherapy program helps children and adults diagnosed as having ADD/ADHD. This disorder is typically diagnosed in individuals ages 6 and up.

In addition to ADD/ADHD, other disorders helped by this program include: head trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety and other psychobiological disorders. Neurotherapy appears to produce changes in brain chemistry, which may underlie some personality disturbances.

2. How does Neurotherapy work?
EEG Neurofeedback allows an individual to train his or her brainwaves toward a more optimal pattern appropriate for the required task.

Improved Concentration
Someone with ADD/ADHD has an excess of slow brainwaves associated with daydreaming, which makes it difficult to concentrate long enough to accomplish a task quickly or efficiently. Neurotherapy helps the individual train his or her brainwaves to produce more of the faster brainwaves associated with concentration and focus.

Once a patient learns to produce faster brainwaves, they can access them as needed to better perform everyday task such as:
Reading
Following directions
Working analytical problems
Staying focused

3. How Do Patients Benefit from Neurotherapy?
Besides improved concentration a patient's social and motor skills frequently improve. An added benefit for many is significantly increased self-esteem. More specifically, results are:

Children:
Reduction or elimination of symptoms
Increases in school grade levels
Improved IQ test scores
Improved self-confidence
Better self-control
Enhanced listening skills

Adults: While adults experience the same results as children, mentioned above, many notice other benefits such as reduced stress and increased effectiveness at work. Several note that depression, anxiety and other problems seem to lessen or disappear completely.

4. How do I know if Neurotherapy is right for my child or me?
For evaluation and diagnosis a detailed quantitative EEG is administered to chart brainwave activity under conditions of challenge and rest. Results are then compiled and compared with a life span database containing brainwave patterns of normal individuals the same age as the patient. This report indicates areas of the brain needing treatment.

5. Does Neurotherapy cause any discomfort or side effects?
No. The procedure simply monitors information. Sensors placed on the surface of the scalp receive brainwave signals and transform them into musical notes and graphs on the computer screen.
