A typical Neurotherapy session uses computerized EEG Neurofeedback to monitor brainwaves.

During a session, brainwaves are monitored by placing sensors on specific scalp locations and connecting the sensors to a computerized electroencephalograph (EEG). The sensors act much like a radio antennae, transmitting information through the EEG to a computer system that records and processes the information much like a heart monitor.

Specialized computer "games" provide brainwave training
Using a variety of computer "games" with graphics and sound representations of the monitored brainwave activity, the patient learns to control what happens by concentrating and directing his or her own thoughts.

For example, a patient may chose to play a game where a jet plane has to fly above a certain line on the computer screen. When he or she concentrates on the screen, specific brainwave activity causes the plane to fly higher and the patient is rewarded with pleasing sounds and more points from the computer. While "playing" the patient is teaching himself of herself how to access the brainwave frequencies necessary to sustain concentration in school or at work.

No Discomfort or Side Effects
The procedure simply monitors information. Sensors placed on the surface of the scalp receive brainwave signals and transform them into musical tones and graphs on the computer screen. No discomfort of side effects have been reported. In fact the experience is most described as relaxing and pleasurable.
